Cedric The Entertainer Calls Out People Making Light Of Possible Food Stamp Pause: ‘That’s Not A Joke
Cedric the Entertainer is speaking out about the serious impact of the government’s pause on food stamps, saying the situation is no laughing matter.
When asked in New York about people joking over the weekend about the SNAP program’s funding crisis, Cedric gave a thoughtful response. “No, that’s not a joke. There’s so many people living with food insecurity in the United States,” he said. “The fact that the government is willing to let its own citizens starve and not eat is ridiculous.”
He added that empathy is key, reminding everyone, “All of us are one paycheck away from being dead broke in this country.” Still, he acknowledged comedy’s role in hard times, noting, “I do understand that we’re going to joke about everything.”
SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, is expected to run out of funding November 1, affecting nearly 42 million Americans as the government shutdown continues.
