Rap Reenters Billboard Hot 100 Top
40 After Two-Week Absence, Thanks To Megan Thee Stallion’s “LOVER GIRL’
Everybody say, “Thank you, Megan!” ????
With her latest single LOVER GIRL, #MeganTheeStallion has made a powerful return to the top 40 of the #BillboardHot100, marking her 21st career entry into the region. LOVER GIRL’s debut (at No. 38) in the Top 40 coincidentally ends a rare two-week absence of rap songs in that tier, a streak unseen since 1990. As reported, for the first time in 35 years, the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 featured zero rap songs following the exit of #KendrickLamar and #SZA’s song “Luther.”
Megan’s track pulls strong numbers in its opening week, recording 8.5 million streams in the U.S., 1.5 million radio audience impressions, and 5,000 in sales. With #LOVERGIRL, Megan not only breaks a genre drought, she reinforces her consistency as a chart-force in hip-hop.
