Condolences: Parkland School Shooting Survivor Donovan Metayer D!es By Su!c! de At 26
Sad news.
Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, a 26-year-old survivor of the 2018 mass sh**ting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in #Parkland, Florida, d!ed by su!c!de on December 15, his family announced over the weekend.
Metayer had lived in Coral Springs, Florida and battled schizophrenia for seven years following the trauma of the attack. A #Facebook post shared by his sister, Nancy Metayer Bowen, said the loss of “our family’s youngest child is a sorrow beyond words — one that will echo through our lives, forever.” On a #GoFundMe page established to help cover funeral expenses and support behavioral health initiatives in Florida, the family wrote, “Yet even in our grief, we are choosing to speak Donovan’s truth, so that other families do not have to suffer in silence the way we have.”
They also described how his final year of high school was overshadowed by the sh**ting that k!lled 17 people and injured at least 17 others, noting that Donovan “carried unimaginable sorrow” and struggled with severe mental health challenges, including “depression, guilt, emotional instability, and long periods of isolation [which] replaced the vibrant young man we once knew.”
#TJB extends its deepest condolences to Donovan’s family, loved ones, and all those impacted by his life and loss during this difficult time.
