“SNL” Alum Chris Redd Becomes Emotional As He Shares How ‘Pill Problems’ Led To Relationship W/ Costar Kenan Thompson’s Ex-Wife: ‘I Felt Bad From The Start’

#ChrisRedd has opened up about the controversy surrounding his romantic relationship with Christina Evangeline, the ex wife of his longtime SNL costar #KenanThompson, in an emotional Instagram video. Redd, who was on the show from 2017 to 2022, said their connection wasn’t planned but developed during a difficult period in his life, when he was struggling with “pill problems.” While others on set, including his costars, “talked sh*t” about him despite buying pills from him, Redd said Evangeline was the only one there for him. She even encouraged him to pursue therapy, and over time, they fell in love.

Redd acknowledged the complicated nature of the situation and the impact it had on his relationship with Thompson. Reflecting on how he felt about crossing that line, Redd said, “and I felt bad from the start. It’s always felt like an emotional double edged sword for me…I really appreciated every piece of work we put together.” He added, “I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them.” In addition to #SNL, the comedians also teamed up and played brothers on Thompson’s self-titled #NBC sitcom, which ran for two seasons from 2021 to 2022.

While Redd shared that he and Thompson had hashed things out and continued to work together roughly a year before his relationship started to make headlines, “sh*t changed” once everyone found out. Redd noted he completely understands Thompson’s switch-up and admitted that he could have handled the entire thing better. “I’m sorry for the people I’ve disappointed with this… it felt like a love I couldn’t miss out on,” Redd said toward the end of the tearful video. He clarified in the comments that Thompson’s relationship with Evangeline was over years before he got involved with her.
