Ring Doorbell Blasted Over Controversial “Search Party” Feature Letting Al Access Cameras To Find Lost Dogs

Has #RingDoorbell taken artificial intelligence too far?

Ring’s Super Bowl LX commercial is sparking debate online, and many viewers aren’t thrilled with the tech company’s latest rollout. The ad highlighted a new AI-powered feature called “Search Party,” which uses neighborhood Ring cameras to help locate missing dogs by matching posted photos with nearby footage. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy defended the technology on X, calling it a “compelling” application of AI and explaining that when someone reports a lost dog, participating outdoor Ring cameras in the area begin searching for potential matches. If a nearby camera spots what might be the missing pet, users receive a photo and video to review and can choose whether to share it with the dog’s owner. Jassy also noted that Search Party had already helped find 99 dogs in just 90 days.

Despite the feature’s pet?friendly intent, many online reacted with alarm after seeing the Super Bowl ad, labeling it “dystopian.” Some commenters argued the technology amounts to mass surveillance, with one person noting, “This is genuinely soft launching the surveillance state.” Another critic added, “piloting a human tracking platform by using Americans obsession with dogs to trick them into utilizing it. brilliantly twisted the powers that be are.”

#TJBCrew, what are your thoughts on this new feature? Are you here for it or not? ?? #TJBReacts
