Kanye West Repeatedly Says ‘I Don’t Recall’ + Appears To Doze Off While Testifying In $1 Million Unpaid Contractor Trial
Kanye West drew attention in a Los Angeles courtroom Friday after appearing fatigued and repeatedly claiming he could not remember key details while testifying in a lawsuit involving renovations at his former Malibu mansion.
The rapper and fashion mogul answered many questions with brief responses such as “yes,” “no,” and “I don’t recall” while being questioned about contractor Tony Saxon, who is suing for $1 million in alleged unpaid wages and expenses tied to a 2021 renovation project.
Journalists covering the hearing reported that West “repeatedly yawned, closed his eyes for long stretches, and at times seemed to catch his head falling forward as if dozing while seated on the witness stand.” The moment even prompted Saxon’s attorney Ron Zambrano to mouth to a colleague, “Is he asleep?”
At one point, West clarified how he prefers to be addressed in court, telling the attorney, “It’s just Ye. No ‘mister.”
While West claimed not to recall many details about his interactions with Saxon, he did remember one specific detail. Asked if he remembered Saxon having body odor, West responded, “Yes.”
TJB Crew, have you ever fell asleep in court?
