Mariah Carey Admits She ‘Used To Hate’ Her ‘Glitter’ Album + Says It Was A ‘Disastrous Flop’ Before Fans Revived Its Legacy
Mariah Carey is opening up about the complicated history behind her 2001 album “Glitter,” revealing that her feelings toward the project have changed dramatically over time.
Speaking with Variety, Carey admitted the soundtrack to her film of the same name once carried painful memories due to its initial reception.
“I used to hate it. I used to be so like, why did I do that?” she said.
The singer explained that the album’s early backlash deeply affected how she viewed the project.
“Because it was a disastrous flop. [Laughs],” Carey added when asked why she once regretted the release.
Despite the rocky start, the album has since gained renewed appreciation from fans. Over the years, supporters pushed “Glitter” back onto music charts, helping transform its legacy. Carey acknowledged that shift, saying the album eventually became something she embraced.
“And then, you know, it became something that I really loved and it just sort of took on its own thing,” she said.
Now, the pop icon says the 25th anniversary of “Glitter” could bring new life to the project. Carey confirmed that potential celebrations are already in discussion.
“Plans for a deluxe and a reissue, or maybe just one, I don’t know. We’re getting on top of it. I’m excited about it.”
