NBA Star Jaylen Brown Studies Teammates’ Zodiac Signs to Lead Celtics — Says It Helps Him “Communicate Better”
Jaylen Brown is taking an unconventional approach to leadership — and it involves zodiac signs.
According to Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, Brown has made a conscious effort this season to better understand his teammates and improve communication across the roster. “Jaylen’s approach to leadership this year has been getting to know his teammates – understanding how to push his teammates’ buttons, how to understand them better, how to communicate with them better,” Mazzulla said, adding, “It’s something that he’s taken very seriously, his leadership off the court.”
Brown’s method includes studying both Chinese and Western zodiac signs, along with numerology, to tailor how he interacts with each player. After a win over the Golden State Warriors, he even broke down several teammates’ zodiac profiles.
“Neemi, he’s Year of the Rabbit,” Brown said, before comparing communication styles across the team. “So, his communication is different from D-White, who is Year of the Dog… So, his communication style is different.”
He continued listing teammates’ signs, noting, “Hugo is also a Dog,” while adding, “Payton is a Tiger,” and “JT is a Tiger.” Brown also identified “Ron is a Dragon,” “Joe’s a Dragon,” and said, “Nikola, he’s new to our team – he’s Year of the Horse,” adding, “It’s Year of the Horse right now.”
Beyond memorizing signs, Brown says the approach has helped him refine how he leads. “I learned communication styles that work best for each individual,” he explained. “I started utilizing that when I speak to each and every guy.”
