Kobe Bryant Flew To Las Vegas To Help Khloé Kardashian Decide On Risky Surgery For Lamar Odom After His 2015 Near-Fatal Overdose
Sometimes in life, you need to lean on your village.
#LamarOdom’s close friend and former Lakers teammate, #KobeBryant, played a pivotal role during a life-or-death moment following his near-fatal overdose in 2015. In his new #Netflix docuseries, Lamar opens up on being found unconscious at a Las Vegas brothel, and the aftermath, such as being hospitalized with severe lung damage. Doctors told his ex?wife, #KhloéKardashian, that a risky surgery was his only chance of survival, though the odds were slim. In the doc, Khloé recalls, “They were like, ‘This surgery, there’s, like, a 10 percent chance it will work, or he might die on the table.’”
She goes on to share that after hearing the news, #Kobe flew to Vegas to support her amid the difficult decision. Khloé ultimately gave the doctors the greenlight to operate. “We got his lungs to work, and he didn’t die,” she says. “But he fell into a coma.” When Lamar finally came to, he says he tore the tubes out of his own neck and greeted Khloé with a weak, “Hey baby,” before passing back out. He was in a coma for days and suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks.
His full journey to recovery is now chronicled in Netflix’s Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom.
