Lizzo, 37, Reveals She Didn’t Lose Her Virginity Until After Winning Her First Grammy In 2020
Lizzo, 37, got deeply candid while appearing on the March 31 episode of Friends Keep Secrets, where she opened up to hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky (Dave Burd), and Kristin Batalucco about waiting until her 30s to lose her virginity. After the hosts tried guessing when it happened, Lizzo stunned them by revealing it happened in 2020. “Isn’t that crazy? I wasn’t even thinking about it… I promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn’t have sex until I won a Grammy,” she said.
The Grammy winner explained that the moment came shortly after finally hitting that milestone. While laughing through the reveal, she made it clear the promise wasn’t fulfilled on the actual awards night, telling the trio, “It was not the night of Grammys,” before confirming it happened soon after her first wins in January 2020.
Lizzo also admitted she spent years hiding the truth because she felt ashamed about being what she called a “late bloomer.” “I was a late bloomer. I lied about it for a long time,” she said, before later adding, “I feel a weight off of my chest right now.” She then recalled an embarrassing conversation with girlfriends that pushed her to fake confidence, saying, “We were all girling one night… ‘Wait, Lizzo are you a virgin?’” and remembered blurting out, “I love the D,” just to get through the moment.
The singer also shared that intimacy had long been tied to fear and religion for her. Opening up about why she waited so long, Lizzo said, “Y’all have no idea. It was religious for me too. Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn’t do anything before marriage.” She then revealed that her first kiss didn’t happen until she was 21 — and described it as “terrible.”
Looking back on that memory, Lizzo said the kiss happened during a New Year’s Eve moment that left her upset. “He forced it on me. I was really mad and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined,’” she recalled.
The vulnerable confession is already getting attention online, giving fans an unexpectedly raw look at the Grammy winner’s journey before fame, success, and her current relationship with Myke Wright.
