Manny Pacquiao’s Team Insists Pro Boxing Match Against Floyd Mayweather Is ‘Still On’ & Not An Exhibition, Despite Conflicting Claims; Says Mayweather Has Already Taken An Advance On His Fight Purse
The fight is still on.
The highly anticipated rematch between #MannyPacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still moving forward as a professional bout, according to Pacquiao’s team, despite recent comments suggesting otherwise. Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur pushed back on Mayweather’s recent claim that the fight would be an exhibition, telling ESPN, “As of right now, the fight is still on. There is no termination of any sort, and he has signed for a professional fight.” Mathur went even further, alleging, “#FloydMayweather is officially in breach of his contract.”
The dispute stems from Mayweather publicly describing the event as an exhibition, which Mathur says directly contradicts multiple signed agreements. According to Pacquiao’s camp, efforts have been made to resolve the issue, but they claim Mayweather’s side has pushed to change the bout’s status. Mathur also noted that a proposed exhibition involving Mayweather and another fighter would violate the existing deal, adding more tension to the situation.
Despite the back-and-forth, Pacquiao’s team insists the fight remains intact and contractually binding. Mathur revealed that Mayweather “signed not one, not two, but three different agreements” tied to the bout and “received money for all three agreements,” also claiming the boxer has already taken an advance on his fight purse.
If all goes according to plan, the two should face off on September 19 at #TheSphere in Las Vegas.
