NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’ Choreographer Darrin Henson Files Lawsuit Against Sony Over Viral ‘Deadpool’ Dance Break & Fortnite Emote
Choreographer Darrin Henson is taking legal action after his iconic routine for NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” resurfaced in major pop culture moments without his approval.
According to a federal lawsuit filed March 27, Henson accuses Sony Music Entertainment of licensing the choreography for use in “Deadpool & Wolverine” and Fortnite without his consent. He claims he owns the routine and never signed away his rights.
The dance, known for its puppet-inspired moves, gained renewed attention in the film’s opening sequence and as a viral in-game emote. Henson alleges others are benefiting while he has not received proper credit or payment.
“The reality is that the work belongs to Henson,” the complaint states.
Henson is now seeking a declaratory judgment to confirm ownership and recover profits tied to the choreography’s recent use.
