Journalist Jemele Hill Warns Media Personalities & Show Producers Against Scammers Posing As Talent Bookers To Access Facebook Accounts
Looks like a new scam is making its rounds.
Taking to Threads, #JemeleHill warned media personalities and show producers about scammers posing as talent bookers in an effort to take over Facebook accounts. She explained that the scheme starts off convincingly, with offers of around $5,000 for a 40-minute interview, something that isn’t out of the ordinary in the industry. But after ironing out details with someone who never appeared on camera, things quickly took a turn. When it was time for the interview, the supposed booker claimed they needed “limited access” to her page as an admin for a chat that was meant to feature Ridiculousness host #RobDyrdek. The moment she granted access, the scammers took full control of the page.
They changed all the security settings and began running nonstop crypto ads. Thankfully, after weeks, Jemele said she was able to get her account back. However, she noted that others have since tried the same tactic on her. In the comments, several journalists and media figures shared that they’ve experienced similar scams. She closed her warning with a reminder: “Having monetized social media platforms with few guardrails is a recipe for disaster. Be careful out there.”
