[UPDATE] “The Players Club” Actor Samuel Monroe Jr.’s Wife Faces Difficult Decision As He Battles Disease Causing Brain Tissue To Deteriorate
Actor Samuel Monroe Jr. continues to fight for his life at a #LosAngeles hospital.
Samuel’s wife, Shawna Stewart, shared with TMZ that a recent CT scan revealed he is suffering from encephalopathy, with brain tissue deteriorating as a result of his many serious health complications. Due to a severely compromised immune system, he is being kept in a negative-pressure quarantine room and is currently on a regimen of six antibiotics.
Shawna holds power of attorney and is now facing an extraordinarily painful crossroads. She has indicated that quality of life is a factor she must weigh, though no final decisions have been made. She describes her husband, who is currently on life support, as a fighter and continues to pray for his recovery. Shawna also shared that though he has opened his eyes a few times recently, she believes those moments are reflexive responses to pain rather than signs of consciousness.
Samuel’s health crisis has been ongoing for weeks. He has been battling MRSA pneumonia and meningitis, among other ailments, requiring multiple blood transfusions within a matter of days, and has also been placed on dialysis. While his mother previously warned fans against fake #GoFundMe pages allegedly created on the actor’s behalf, his wife has launched an official one to help cover ongoing medical expenses.
