LeBron James Says Retirement Will Come When He Feels Like He’s “Cheating The Game”
LeBron James is getting candid about what will eventually push him to walk away from the NBA.
During a recent interview with TIME, the basketball legend opened up about retirement and explained that his decision will not just come down to age, numbers, or outside pressure. Instead, LeBron said he will know it is time to leave the game when the work behind the scenes no longer excites him.
“When I’m not in love with getting to the arenas on game days five hours before to start my preparation, if I’m out of love with getting to practice 2½ hours beforehand, then I know I’ll be done. Because then I’m going to start cheating the game.”
The statement shows that, for LeBron, retirement is tied to passion and respect for the sport. Until that love fades, it sounds like he still has more basketball left in him.
