Over the weekend, the city unveiled “Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons Way” in honor of the late rapper, but the moment was overshadowed by rising tension between DMX’s fiancée, Desiree Lindstrom, and his first family. Lindstrom, who serves as co-administrator of his estate alongside his daughter Sasha, had already addressed the crowd before things began to unravel.

DMX’s eldest son, Xavier Simmons, who says he was only given a chance to speak at the last minute, didn’t hold back. He told the crowd there was “absolutely no way” the ceremony would end without hearing from his father’s “original family,” before bringing his mother, Tashera Simmons, and siblings on stage. Xavier praised Tashera for helping push the street naming forward, saying she collected signatures and helped make it happen. He then directly called out Lindstrom, accusing her of excluding DMX’s children and Tashera from key moments tied to the rapper’s legacy — moments before his microphone was cut.

The fallout was immediate. Lindstrom, who was originally expected to take part in the street sign unveiling, was replaced by #Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and left shortly after the confrontation. Xavier, Tashera, the #RuffRyders, and others remained to take photos and celebrate under the newly named street sign. Later, Tashera took to social media and backed Xavier, saying, “Did my son expose these devils? They’ve been exposed.” She continued, “Y’all know DMX. Y’all know Tashera. We built the DMX legacy together. There is no X without Tashera.” She added that the family felt sidelined in their own hometown, saying, “I’ma let y’all sit with that one.”
