Michael Rapaport Slams Mayor Zohran Mamdani As A “Fake Knicks Fan,” Says He Gave A “ChatGPT Speech”
Michael Rapaport is taking aim at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani following the Knicks’ long-awaited championship parade.
The outspoken actor and diehard Knicks supporter blasted Mamdani on Instagram, accusing the mayor of overshadowing the team’s historic celebration with a lengthy speech that Rapaport says had fans talking more about politics than basketball.
In a video posted to social media, Rapaport claimed Mamdani spoke for more than nine minutes during the parade festivities — longer than Knicks star Jalen Brunson, head coach Tom Thibodeau, team owner James Dolan, and even longer than Alicia Keys’ performance. He argued that the event should have been focused entirely on the players who delivered the franchise’s first NBA title in more than five decades.
“53 years of pain, suffering & heartbreak and a guy who ain’t even from here steals the spotlight in 9 minutes and 19 seconds,” Rapaport wrote. He also mocked the mayor’s remarks as a “ChatGPT speech” and labeled Mamdani a “fake Knicks fan,” suggesting the politician was jumping on the team’s success.
Rapaport doubled down in a second post, questioning whether any other championship parade had ever been “hijacked” by a politician. He argued that the fact fans were still debating the mayor’s appearance instead of celebrating the team spoke volumes about how the event was perceived.
The criticism quickly sparked debate online, with some Knicks fans agreeing that the parade should have remained focused solely on the team, while others defended the mayor’s participation in a citywide celebration marking one of the biggest moments in New York sports history.
