Rapper T.I. Asks Judge To Dismiss Sabrina Peterson’s Emotional Distress Claim Over Instagram Video
Rapper T.I. is asking a federal judge to dismiss the final remaining claim brought by Sabrina Peterson in their years-long legal dispute.
According to AllHipHop, T.I. filed a motion on June 15 requesting that a Los Angeles federal judge throw out Peterson’s claim for intentional infliction of emotional distress. The claim stems from a July 2025 Instagram video in which the rapper encouraged followers to “not spread lies” and to “mind your business.” Peterson has argued that the post was directed at her and caused emotional harm.
T.I.’s legal team disagrees, arguing that the video never mentioned Peterson by name, did not tag her, and contained no direct reference to her. His attorneys also contend that only a handful of commenters connected the post to Peterson despite the video generating tens of thousands of interactions online.
The latest filing is just one chapter in a legal battle that dates back to 2021, when Peterson publicly accused T.I. of once pointing a gun at her during an altercation. T.I. and his wife, Tiny Harris, denied the allegation, and Peterson later sued the couple for defamation, invasion of privacy, emotional distress, and other claims. Over the years, several portions of Peterson’s lawsuit were dismissed, and she was ordered to pay more than $96,000 in legal fees.
In December 2024, T.I. launched his own federal defamation lawsuit against Peterson, alleging she falsely claimed on social media that he was under federal investigation for sex trafficking. Peterson responded with counterclaims, but many of those allegations have already been dismissed, leaving the emotional distress claim as the primary issue still being litigated.
A judge has not yet ruled on T.I.’s latest request. If granted, it could eliminate Peterson’s last remaining claim in the ongoing case.
