Serena Williams To Compete In Wimbledon Singles After Four-Year Hiatus
Serena Williams is officially returning to Wimbledon singles after accepting a wild-card invitation for the 2026 Championships, marking her first singles appearance at the tournament since 2022. Wimbledon announced the news Sunday, ending speculation about whether the 23-time Grand Slam champion would also compete in singles after already accepting a doubles wild card with sister Venus Williams.
The 44-year-old recently returned to professional competition in doubles after nearly four years away from the tour. Her last singles match came at the 2022 U.S. Open, where she lost in the third round before stepping away from the sport.
Williams owns seven Wimbledon singles titles and six Wimbledon doubles titles alongside Venus, making her one of the most decorated players in the tournament’s history. She’ll now compete in both singles and doubles when Wimbledon begins June 29.
