The actor, who is set to make his directorial debut in the upcoming horror comedy Haunted Heist, is among those still raising questions following the high-profile trial of #KarmeloAnthony. As previously reported, Anthony recently secured new legal representation for his appeal after being sentenced to 35 years in prison over a 2025 Texas track meet dispute that resulted in the de@th of fellow teen #AustinMetcalf.
Lil Rel didn’t hold back when addressing critics — particularly within the Black community — who argue the lengthy sentence was justified. He pushed back on that narrative, calling out what he sees as hypocrisy from those who are quick to judge Anthony while staying quiet on other self-defense-related cases. Lil Rel also clarified that supporters aren’t claiming Anthony should face no consequences, but are instead advocating for a fair trial. “It is upsetting that you think that young man deserved 35 years,” he said. Lil Rel’s comments add to the ongoing debate surrounding the case.
