Sexyy Red Asks Judge To Remove Her From Tay Keith Royalty Lawsuit: “I Am Appalled”

Sexyy Red is speaking out after learning she was named as a defendant in a royalty lawsuit filed by her late friend and longtime collaborator, Tay Keith.

According to TMZ, the rapper wrote an emotional letter to the judge on June 6—just days before Tay Keith’s death—saying she was “appalled” and hurt after discovering she had been included in the legal dispute. In the letter, Sexyy Red maintained that artists are not responsible for paying producers directly, explaining that royalty payments are handled by record labels. She added that if money was owed, she believed the label had already begun the process of resolving the issue.

Sexyy Red also noted that she and Tay Keith remained close, writing that they were “great working partners and even greater friends.” She revealed that the producer allegedly told her he didn’t understand why she had been named as a defendant in the case and asked the court to remove her from the lawsuit. The rapper further claimed there were songs she and Tay Keith had created together for which she had not yet been paid either, describing the situation as part of the label’s payment process after funds are recouped.

Tay Keith filed the lawsuit earlier this year, alleging he produced 13 songs for Sexyy Red in 2024 but had not received compensation. Following his passing, representatives for both the producer and Sexyy Red’s label stated the dispute was between the labels—not the artist herself—and said both sides had been working toward a resolution before his death.
