Drop – Calls It A Gift To The Culture
One thing’s for sure — Beyoncé’s inner circle knows how to keep a secret.
Music producer and songwriter The-Dream, a longtime collaborator of Beyoncé, recently chopped it up with radio personality Big Mack about her surprise drop, “Morning Dew (Donk).” The track was originally written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, with production handled by Beyoncé and Pharrell. It’s believed to have been recorded back in 2013, though fans didn’t hear a snippet until 2021. Two years later, an unofficial full version reportedly made its way online.
Fast forward to July 4th, and #Beyoncé shocked fans with an official release, arriving two months ahead of the 20th anniversary of her sophomore album, “B’Day.” During the interview, #TheDream said he’s “pretty locked in” with Beyoncé and knew the drop was coming. He also defended her no-warning rollout style, saying it’s her art and fans ultimately appreciate the surprises. As he put it, “Donk” was a Fourth of July gift for the culture.
