LeBron James Says Daughter Zhuri’s Feelings Are A Major Factor In Choosing His Next Team

LeBron James says the biggest voice influencing where he’ll play next isn’t an NBA executive, coach, or fellow superstar—it’s his daughter, Zhuri. During a live taping at Fanatics Fest in New York, the NBA icon opened up about the personal factors shaping his highly anticipated free agency decision, revealing that family is taking precedence as he prepares for the final chapter of his career.

When asked what’s carrying the most weight in his decision, LeBron didn’t hesitate to point to his youngest child. “It’s my almost 12-year-old daughter who is pulling the weight a lot,” he said. The four-time NBA champion explained that before leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, he made sure to have an honest conversation with Zhuri so she wouldn’t hear the news from someone else first.

I pulled her to the side, and I was like, ‘Baby, I don’t want you to hear from nobody else, but I won’t be playing for the Lakers next year. I will be playing somewhere else. So, I won’t be home all the time. And you may not have an answer right now—you can give me an answer now, you can wait, you can write it down. Just want to know how you’re feeling about it because you mean a lot to me,’” LeBron shared.

The 41-year-old also stressed that while he still wants to compete for another championship, basketball isn’t the only thing driving his decision. “What’s most important is that I want to compete. I want to compete at a high level. I want to join a franchise that shares the same model as myself. That’s like practicing championship habits every day,” he said before reminding fans that no announcement has been made. “We do not have an announcement to make just yet.”

As speculation continues to swirl about where LeBron will suit up next, he assured fans they won’t have to wait much longer. “People are like, ‘Hurry up and make a goddamn decision, Bron.’ It’s like, OK, it’s not just about the team… I won’t hold you guys up too much longer. But the family portion is huge for me.” While contenders across the league continue to wait for his answer, LeBron made it clear that wherever he lands, the decision will be made with both basketball and his family’s happiness in mind.
