Mike Tyson Says He Sent Money To Guards & Helped Pay For Their Kids To Go To College While In Prison

Mike Tyson is opening up about how his wealth shaped his experience behind bars, revealing that having money allowed him to live far more comfortably than many other inmates. During a recent appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, the former heavyweight champion said he used his financial resources to help prison staff and, in return, enjoyed privileges that made prison life easier.

“When I was in prison, I still had money,” Tyson explained. “So, I would fix people’s houses up. The doctors or whoever they were, the guards, I would just send them money, give them money for their kids to go to college and everything. I really had it cool in prison.”

Tyson admitted his first year behind bars was far from smooth, saying his own behavior led to additional time being added to his sentence.

“My first year I was an a**hole, so that’s why they had to give me that extra year. I really had life in there. It was really crazy though. It wasn’t reality though. It wasn’t the real world.”

According to Tyson, once he adjusted to prison life, his experience changed dramatically.

“After my first year being an a**hole in prison, I was the mac. I had anything I wanted. Me and my roommate, we had a menu. Spaghetti and meatballs, steak and rice. We had a menu for what we was going to eat.”

The boxing icon closed by acknowledging that his financial situation made his experience very different from that of most inmates, saying he was grateful he had the means to help others.

“We were just blessed by God that I was able to have the resources to do that.”

Tyson’s candid remarks have already sparked conversation online, with some social media users praising his generosity toward prison staff and their families, while others questioned the broader implications of the privileges he says his wealth afforded him during his incarceration.
