24-Year-Old Accused Of Scamming Ex-NFL Players Out Of $1 Million Found De@d In Pool, Investigation Underway
Mohamed Coulibaly, the 24-year-old accused of running a scheme that allegedly tricked former #NFL players out of more than $1 million, was found de@d last Friday (July 31) in a swimming pool at a #NewJersey home. Police discovered his body while conducting a welfare check after concerned family members reported not being able to reach him. An investigation is now underway.
Coulibaly had recently been named in a Barron’s investigative article as the alleged organizer of a scheme that convinced athletes to invest in what appeared to be thriving e-commerce shops. The sales figures investors saw were allegedly fabricated, and the entries were “manually input by somebody with access to the backend of these stores” to make the businesses appear profitable. Former #NewYorkGiants linebacker Tae Crowder reportedly put his entire $500,000 savings into one of Coulibaly’s ventures after being introduced through a mutual friend.
Coulibaly had pushed back on the scam allegations earlier this year, telling Barron’s the reporting stemmed from a misunderstanding of the technology and that investors hadn’t been paid because he himself was still waiting on funds from a pending acquisition of his company. No criminal charges had been filed in connection with the alleged scheme before his de@th.
