[UPDATE] Pageant Queen Says She’s Not At All’ Sorry After Losing Miss North Carolina USA Crown Over N-Word Use: ‘It’s Your First Amendment Right To Express Yourself
Former #MissNorthCarolina USA Brittany Boltinhouse says she has no regrets about past use of a racial slur, despite the controversy costing her the pageant title.
In a new interview with the Daily Mail, Boltinhouse was asked whether she owed an apology for repeatedly using the N-word in resurfaced posts. The 27-year-old flatly rejected the idea, telling the outlet, “No. Not at all.” She argued she was “unfairly targeted,” adding, “It’s a constitutional right, it’s your First Amendment right to express yourself … and I feel like I was ripped of that as a proud American.”
Boltinhouse has retained legal counsel to argue she was really targeted over her Christian faith and conservative politics — and maintains that’s the actual reason behind her ouster, not her old social media posts. “My rights were violated, and I’m going to stand up for myself,” she said, adding that she plans to “redefine” the narrative others have built around her. Her attorney, Patrick Mincey, echoed that defense, calling the racism, homophobia and transphobia accusations against her “false slanders and slurs” and arguing her removal had nothing to do with old posts she isn’t apologizing for.
ICYMI: Last week #MissUSA CEO Thom Brodeur announced Boltinhouse had agreed to step down after the posts were discovered. She was quickly replaced with first runner-up Myla Hadley.
