Former #MissUniverse Jamaica Gabrielle Henry is taking legal action nearly a year after her terrifying fall from the Miss Universe stage.

Henry filed a lawsuit Sept. 21 against the Miss Universe Organization and two of its parent companies, alleging negligence and unsafe conditions caused her to plunge roughly five feet through an “unmarked and uncovered opening in the stage” during the Nov. 19, 2025 competition. She claims intense stage lighting impaired her visibility before the fall, which knocked her unconscious and left her with a “traumatic brain injury with acute subarachnoid hemorrhage, frontal lobe hemorrhagic contusion, and subdural hemorrhage.” Henry remained hospitalized until Dec. 10 and described the incident in her complaint as the “most traumatic moment” of her life.

According to the suit, obtained by PEOLE, the fallout didn’t end when Henry left the hospital. The then-practicing ophthalmologist allegedly continues to experience “neurological and cognitive symptoms” requiring ongoing treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up care, and her injuries left her “unable to resume her medical residency.” She also claims the ordeal has impacted her earning capacity and professional opportunities while the widespread media attention surrounding the fall has caused continuing emotional distress. Henry further alleges other contestants previously complained about the staging and lighting and claims the stage was modified after her accident to add bright white lights along its edge.

However, the Miss Universe Organization told the outlet that it has not been served with or received #GabrielleHenry’s lawsuit and therefore cannot comment on claims it has not seen: “To date, the Organization has not been served with, nor has it received, any lawsuit, claim, demand letter, or subpoena from Ms. Henry or anyone acting on her behalf. We are therefore not in a position to comment on claims we have not seen.”
