[Update] Jay-Z Asks Appeals Court To Revive Extortion & Defamation Case Against Attorney Tony Buzbee After Former R@pe Accuser Recants Allegations

Jay-Z is making another legal push against attorney Tony Buzbee after the woman who previously accused the rapper of s*xual a$$ault publicly withdrew her allegations against him.

The music mogul, whose legal name is Sean Carter, has filed a petition with a California appeals court asking judges to reconsider their recent decision not to revive his extortion and defamation lawsuit against Buzbee.

According to court documents, Jay-Z is pointing to Jane Doe’s recantation as “explosive new evidence” that he believes should allow his “meritorious claims to proceed.”

The lawsuit had previously been dismissed after the woman said she wanted to end her case to “protect herself from h*rassment and invasion of privacy.”

However, Jay-Z argues her recent statements tell a different story. After withdrawing the allegations, the woman reportedly said she had doubts about the accusations. Carter claims Buzbee pushed for the original lawsuit to be dismissed to protect himself from potential sanctions rather than to protect his client’s privacy.

Jay-Z “asks only that he have the opportunity to prove his case through limited discovery on remand.” If that process produces supporting evidence, he wants the lawsuit to proceed to trial.

The woman’s new attorney, James Blair Newman Jr., has also issued a major clarification.

“Our client maintains that she was a victim of s*xual a$$ault, but she was entirely mistaken in her allegations identifying Mr. Carter, and those allegations were false.”

He added, “Mr. Carter did not r@pe her, s*xually a$$ault her, engage in any inappropriate conduct towards her, and she has never met him. She sincerely and unconditionally apologizes to Mr. Carter and his family.”

Buzbee has not publicly responded to the latest filing.
