Jamie Foxx Says He ‘Didn’t Like’ George Floyd Joke At Kevin Hart Roast, Explains Why He Won’t Do ‘Club Shay Shay’

Jamie Foxx is opening up about where he draws the line in comedy — and why fans shouldn’t expect to see him sitting down for an interview on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay anytime soon.

While discussing his new Hulu stand-up special, Jamie Foxx: Take Care of Yourself, the actor and comedian reflected on Tony Hinchcliffe’s controversial George Floyd joke during Netflix’s The Roast of Kevin Hart. Foxx made it clear the joke didn’t sit well with him, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I didn’t like the George Floyd sh*t at all.” He also revealed that watching the fallout surrounding the roast influenced what he ultimately kept in his own special.

Foxx also addressed why he has resisted appearing on Shannon Sharpe’s popular Club Shay Shay podcast. According to Foxx, he worries that the nature of viral interviews can create pressure to make increasingly outrageous statements in order to generate attention.

“It seems like you get in trouble,” Foxx said. “It seems like if you don’t say something really crazy, you can’t really affect the algorithm.”

His comments come as Foxx prepares to return to stand-up with Take Care of Yourself, which premieres Oct. 7 on Hulu. The new special finds the Oscar-winning entertainer tackling aging, his life and career while being more selective about the material he’s willing to put onstage.
