Singer Tank Pulls Out of LA Clippers Performance: ‘I must take a stand!’
Celebs continue to react to the controversy surrounding LA Clippers owner, Donald Sterling. And some just aren’t serving lip service. R&B singer Tank (real name Durrell Babbs) also disagrees with the alleged comments that Donald made to his then-girlfriend about blacks. Tank, who is also one-third of TGT, told TMZ that he refuses to perform at a scheduled appearance. The 38-year-old had planned to perform the national anthem at Tuesday’s Clippers game in Los Angeles.
He explained:
As an African-American man and artist, I must take a stand on this matter that is so deeply personal to me. In light of the recent disturbing and offensive allegations, I cannot move forward with my scheduled appearance at Tuesday’s Los Angeles Clippers Game. Although I appreciate the opportunity to sing the national anthem at the game, I cannot associate my brand with an owner or event where African-Americans and other minorities are not welcome.
He added on Instagram:
Lets stand for something! Not just black people but EVERYBODY! God Bless..
Reportedly, sponsors including CarMax, Amtrak, Kia, Virgin America and State Farm have either suspended or canceled their sponsorships of the team. The NBA is currently investigating racist comments allegedly made by Donald Sterling during a recorded conversation.
