[UPDATE] Naya Rivera’s Camp Denies Singer Dropped From Columbia
It’s been a helluva week for actress/singer Naya Rivera. According to Billboard, The Glee actress is no longer signed to Columbia Records. The 27-year-old was signed in 2011, with plans to release a full-length album that never came to fruition.
Reportedly, Naya was the first Glee actress to land a solo record deal. She picked up lots of momentum with ‘Sorry’, an uptempo track that featured her then fiance, rapper Big Sean.
As previously reported, this week, rumors swirled that she’d been fired from Glee. The show, ending its fifth season, is said to have written her off the final episodes. Naya has yet to confirm her departure and tells The Hollywood Reporter reports of her pink slip are ‘untrue’.
After getting engaged in late last year, Naya and Big Sean called off their engagement, with his rep confirming in a statement:
After careful thought and much consideration, Sean has made the difficult decision to call the wedding off. The recent rumors and accusations reported by so called or fake sources are simply untrue. Seanwishes Naya nothing but the best and it is still his hope that they can continue to work through their issues privately. We will not be commenting again on this matter.
Naya has yet to respond to reports that she’s no longer on Columbia.
UPDATED // May 1st, 7:00 a.m. EST
Naya’s rep has released the following statement denying that she has been dropped from Columbia or fired from Glee.
The newest story claiming that Naya Rivera was dropped from her recording contract with Columbia Records is absolutely false. If the ‘news’ outlets who put out this story had bothered to contact anyone from her team they would have learned this was false. To be clear, any rumors or statements made as fact, that Naya Rivera was fired or let go from Glee or dropped from her recording contract, are categorically false. Someone obviously has an agenda to damage Naya’s good name and the media are failing at their duty to responsibly vet their sources and verify what is true and what is not.Naya’s attorneys are prepared to take any and all legal action to enforce and protect her rights.

Sorry to sound judgmental but WTF happened to this girl? Am I the only one who remembers when she was on a couple of episodes of “Smart Guy” with Tahj Mowry? She was so adorable…but I guess so was Miley Cyrus at one point. I guess “when it rains, it pours” and unfortunately, this is not her season. I hope these setbacks don’t discourage her.
