[EXCLUSIVE] Robin Thicke: Small, Legal Victory in Battle With Marvin Gaye’s Family
theJasmineBRAND.com has exclusively learned that Robin Thicke has scored a small legal victory against the family of music legend Marvin Gaye, with a federal court judge ordering them to hand over confidential documents they previously refused to give the singer.
As previously reported, on August 2013, Thicke, Pharrell Williams, and T.I. (real name Clifford Harris, Jr.) filed a preemptive lawsuit over their song after Marvin Gaye’s estate and Bridgeport music reportedly threatened action against Thicke and his co-creators claiming “Blurred Lines” was too similar to Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up” (and also Funkadelic’s “Sexy Ways”). Thicke asked the court to rule that his hit song was an original work.
