(EXCLUSIVE) Jay Z – Judge Sides w/ Rapper in ‘Big Pimpin’ Lawsuit, Bans Jury From Hearing About Past Criminal Convictions & Wealth
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Jay Z scored a huge legal victory in the battle over his song “Big Pimpin” with a federal court judge siding with the rapper — by not allowing the jury to be informed about his past criminal convictions and any discussion about the music mogul’s net worth.
The rapper has been battling a lawsuit over a sample he used in his hit song “Big Pimpin” since 2007. Osama Ahmed Fahmy – the heir to a 1960’s composer named Baligh Hamdy who created the musical composition ‘Khosara, Khosara” – filed suit claiming he licensed out his father’s song, but with a moral clause. He said that clause was violated when Jay Z used it in his song because he had included it in a song that glorified things his father did not stand for in his life.
Jay Z and his label argued they had obtained the right license and did nothing wrong. The legal battle has been going on for years and is still being fought in federal court.
