Simone Biles Reveals She Has ADHD, After Accusations of Using Banned Drugs
Since childhood, Simone Biles has suffered from ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). ADHD is a mental disorder of the neurodevelopmental type. It is characterized by problems paying attention, excessive activity, or difficulty controlling behavior which is not appropriate for a person’s age.
The Olympic gold medalist was forced to reveal this information, after she became the victim of a hacking scandal surrounding Olympic athletes.
Reportedly, Russian computer hackers obtained and published documents from the World Anti-Doping Agency’s athlete database.
The hack revealed private medical information about Biles, along with Serena Williams and sister Venus Williams.
According to the hacked info, all three were reportedly given medical exemptions to use banned drugs.
The documents show that Biles tested positive for a banned drug on WADA’s list, though there was no misuse of drugs. After news hit of the leak, Biles release a statement, saying:
I have ADHD and I have taken medicine for it since I was a kid. Please know, I believe in clean sport, have always followed the rules, and will continue to do so as fair play is critical to sport and is very important to me.
The World Anti-Doping Agency also released a statement, saying,
WADA deeply regrets this situation and is very conscious of the threat that it represents to athletes whose confidential information has been divulged through this criminal act.
The hackers also warned that they planned to release more medical records of athletes.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Today’s sport is truly contaminated while the world is unaware of the large number of American doping athletes.
