New “Unsolved” Crime Drama About Tupac & Biggie’s Murder Announced
“Unsolved” Tupac & Biggie’s Crime Drama Announced
USA Network has given a pilot order to the scripted true crime series that chronicles police investigations into the murders of late rappers Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur. The pilot is being directed and executive produced by Anthony Hemingway, the same director/executive producer on the true crime series FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.
The series is written by Kyle Long and is based on the experiences of former LAPD Detective Greg Kading, author of the book Murder Rap: The Untold Story of Biggie Smalls & Tupac Shakur Murder Investigations, who led multiple law-enforcement task forces investigating the murders.
On the night of September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot in his vehicle, after attending the Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson boxing in Las Vegas. He was hit four times, twice in the chest, once in the arm, and once in the thigh. At the hospital, Shakur was heavily sedated, was placed on life-support machines, and was ultimately put under a barbiturate-induced coma after repeatedly trying to get out of the bed. While in the intensive-care unit, on the afternoon of Friday, September 13, 1996, Shakur died from internal bleeding; doctors attempted to revive him but could not stop the hemorrhaging. The official causes of death were noted as respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest in connection with multiple gunshot wounds.
Biggie (real name Christopher Wallace) was killed on March 9, in LA, six months after Tupac Shakur was killed. Wallace’s autopsy was released to the public in December 2012, over a decade after his death. According to the report, three of the four shots were not fatal. The first bullet hit in his left forearm and traveled down to his wrist; the second hit him in the back, missing all vital organs, and exited through his left shoulder; and the third hit his outer left thigh and left through his inner thigh. The report said that the third bullet struck “the left side of the scrotum, causing a very shallow, 3?8 inch [10 mm] linear laceration.” The fourth bullet was fatal, entering through his right hip and striking several vital organs, before stopping in his left shoulder area. That bullet struck his colon, liver, heart and upper lobe of his left lung. Wallace’s murder remains unsolved and there are many theories regarding the identities and motives of the murderers.
