(EXCLUSIVE) NBA Star Iman Shumpert Returns to Court For Suspended License Over Refusal to Take Blood Test During DUI Arrest
Iman Shumpert Returns to Court
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, Cleveland Cavilers star Iman Shumpert has returned to court demanding the decision to suspend his driver’s license for a year be over turned. Earlier this year, he refused to take a blood test when he was arrested for DUI. And now he is accusing the arresting officer of not informing him of the consequences for not submitting to the test.
Here’s the latest: On November 15th, Shumpert filed suit against Bert Brantley, the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Driver Services, demanding the decision to suspend his driver’s license over his arrest be over turned. The NBA star, who is married to singer Teyana Taylor, explains due to his refusal to submit to the blood test, the Commissioner suspended his license for 1 year.
Shumpert is demanding the decision to suspend his license be vacated. He claims the arresting officer failed to inform him that by refusing the test his license would automatically be suspended for 1 year with no driving privileges.
He is appealing the decision and says that this matter should be not delayed, in light of the total suspension of his driving privileges caused by this improper administrative license suspension.
Here’s the backstory: Back in August, Shumpert was arrested for driving under the influence of marijuana in Atlanta. The NBA star was pulled over for a lane change violation and his taillights weren’t on.
Law enforcement claimed during the stop they saw his eyes were bloodshot and he smelled strongly of marijuana.
During the field sobriety test, the police determined the NBA star was high and he even admitted he smoked weed before leaving his “homegirl’s house”. They eventually searched his car and found a mason jar full of weed.
Shumpert refused to submit to a blood test claiming it would cause a scene due to his celebrity.
He was arrested for DUI marijuana and possession of weed (less than an ounce). He is awaiting sentencing in the criminal case.
The following month, the District Attorney official charged Shumpert with misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence of drugs, marijuana possession and failure to maintain lane. He is facing up to a year in jail for the marijuana possession charge.
