Kandi Burruss Calls BS On Ex Employee’s Lawsuit
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, RHOA star Kandi Burruss is blasting allegations she screwed over a former employee out of overtime for years, saying his lawsuit is nonsense because he was paid in full and isn’t owed.
Here’s the latest: On November 28th, Kandi went to court blasting allegations that she violated labor laws and screwed over her alleged ex-employee.
The reality star denies she engaged in any unlawful employment practices. Kandi argues Johnnie Winston III was an independent contractor when he worked with her and was paid for his services over the years.
She explains that Kandi Koated Entertainment’s policies, practices and procedures are all in conformity with the law and regulations.
Kandi is demanding the lawsuit be thrown out of court – saying the man was paid in full – and wants him to cover her legal bills.
Here’s the backstory: theJasmineBRAND.com broke the story — a man named Johnnie Winston III filed suit against Kandi Burruss-Tucker and her company Kandi Koated Entertainment.
He explained that he began working as the reality star’s manager, event planner and production coordinator in 2013 until his termination in February 2016. Winston accused Kandi of failing to pay the required state minimum wage and overtime wages for time spent working in the recording studio, planning special events, running errands and preparing meals for special events and attending meetings.
His job included performing handyman duties at her studio, the Kandi Factory. He ran personal errands for her and helped assist her with a play entitled ‘A Mother’s Love”. He was required to work 7 days a week and 10-12 hours a day.
From early 2014 until he was fired, his responsibilities increased and he was periodically required to assist with planning events like Kandi’s wedding to Todd Tucker and her Bedroom Kandi Convention and even her Business Woman’s Masterclass.
He said he was terminated in April 2015, but rehired in May 2015. However, throughout his employment he accuses Kandi of failing to pay overtime pay or the required minimum wage.
Winston sued for the entire pay and overtime owed along with liquidated damages in an additional amount equal to back pay and benefits along with his attorney fees and interest.
