[EXCLUSIVE] T.I. Wants Ex Restaurant Employees To Drop Lawsuit: I don’t owe you anything!
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, T.I. is denying he screwed his former restaurant employees out of overtime & wages. The rapper, actor and activist is demanding their class action lawsuit be thrown out. He alleges that he played no role in the day-to-day operations and reveals the venture made him less than $500k.
Here’s the latest: T.I. has responded to the class action suit denying he had any control over the restaurant operations. The rapper says he did not exercise control over the structure of the employee relationship, have economic control, was not responsible for day-to-day operations and was not in charge of hiring and firing or setting employees wages or schedules.
He denies the allegation he was the employer and believes he should not have been sued with the other defendants. Further, he argues all of his actions were in good faith, non-willful and not malicious
T.I. admits that he did not make in excess of $500,000 pursuant to his interest in Scales 925 Atlanta, along with the fact that he did help make initial decisions regarding the menu and location, along with selecting the head chef. He says beyond that, he did not have involvement in the operation.
The rapper demanded he be dismissed from the suit and the ex-employees not be awarded.
Here’s the backstory: Back in March, Kyle Varges, Khori Vargas (both Bar Backer and Food Runner) and Shawn Yarborough (Lead Cook) sued T.I., his business partner Charles Hughes and Scales 925 Atlanta.
They accused the rapper and his team of over working them, sometimes up to 80 hours a week without ever paying a dime in overtime. Khori claims that one time, she worked 112 hours in a week at the
restaurant.
Further, they claimed the defendants would pay them $15 in tips to split between them, when the actual amount in tips was much higher.
They sued seeking all unpaid overtime, liquidated damages and interest and attorney fees. The suit is one of multiple legal actions filed by former employees of Scales 925 Atlanta.
