Bill Cosby Paid $3.8 Million To Sexual Assault Accuser
Bill Cosby paid a serious coin to one of his accusers. On Monday, during opening statements of his trial, it was revealed that he paid $3.38 million to the woman who said that he drugged and assaulted her as part of a 2006 civil settlement.
The 80-year-old comedian is currently on trial for three counts of aggravated indecent assault. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
As previously reported, Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee, says that Cosby drugged her and then assaulted her at his home in 2004. Cosby’s defense attorneys have argued that he and Constand had a consensual sexual relationship.
The woman reported the alleged assault to police in 2005, but no criminal charges were filed at the time. She and the legendary comedian settled a civil lawsuit in 2006. Although parts of that settlement have been made public — including Cosby’s admission that he got prescription sedatives to give to women he wanted to have sex with — the amount that she was paid was not revealed.
If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
