Bill Cosby Found Guilty In Sexual Assault Case, Could Face Up To 30 Years
Bill Cosby has been found guilty. Cosby, 80, was being retried for allegedly sexually assaulting former Temple University employee, Andrea Constand. She claimed that in January 2004, she was drugged and molested by Cosby inside his Pennsylvania home. Constand, 45, says he gave her wine and three blue pills and after losing consciousness, she woke up with him sexually assaulting her. Cosby was convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Constand. The panel began deliberating Wednesday around 11 a.m., and worked for more than 14 hours over two days to reach the verdict.
In April, the jurors were told by police officers that Cosby said he never had sex with Constand because he doesn’t like intercourse. He told the officers who interviewed him about the allegations, that instead he “likes the petting, the touching.” Cosby also told police Constand never initiated anything but was a “willing participant” to him sexually touching her. He says that he and Constand had engaged in three separate consensual encounters.
The judge decided Cosby can remain free on bail while he awaits sentencing. He faces up to 10 years in prison on each count, but would likely serve them concurrently. A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled, and he remains out on bail.
