Roseanne Blames Ambien for Racial Tweets, Company Responds ‘Racism is NOT A Side Affect’
Roseanne Blames Ambien for Racial Tweets
Actress/comedian Rosanne Barr is in hot water for tweeting a racial “joke” about former Obama presidential advisor Valerie Jarrett. Having compared Jarrett to Planet of the Apes, Rosanne’s Tweets ultimately got the Rosanne reboot canceled on ABC. A couple of Rosanne’s co-stars went on to state that her views in no way represents theirs or that of the shows cast and Rosanne wasn’t exactly too happy with those statements. She went on to apologize for comparing Jarrett to Planet of The Apes, and apparently left Twitter for a couple of hours. After the Rosanne reboot was canceled yesterday, Rosanne went back to Twitter to apologize again while also minutely defending why she made her tweets.

She stated that she was on the popular sleep aid Ambien when she made those tweets and although it’s not an “excuse” she’s done “weird stuff” while on the sleep aid drug. Ambien is a sedative used to help people who are suffering from insomnia get to sleep faster. While many people on Ambien haven’t gone on social media to make racial jokes, Ambien is known to have side effects of making people extremely drowsy and/or sleepwalk.
Sanofi, the company that produces Ambien, responded, along with Dictionary.com.
