Jennifer Lopez To Star In New Film About Stripper Con-Artists Titled “Hustlers”
Jennifer Lopez has been tapped to star in Hustlers, a Lorene Scafaria-directed film inspired by a New York Magazine article titled “The Hustlers at Scores”. In the film, Lopez will lead a team of ambitious former strip club employees in their scheme to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients and get their cut of the money they deserve. Scafaria says of the film:
The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture. Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world.
As to why she chose J.Lo for this role, Scafaria says:
There is no other actor who could embody this raw and dynamic character with such complexity, humanity and intelligence. It’s always been her. She’s f—ing Jennifer Lopez.
No other details about the project have been released.
JLo is a singer, actress, dancer and producer. In 1991, she began appearing as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color, where she remained a regular until she decided to pursue an acting career in 1993. For her first leading role in the 1997 Selena biopic of the same name, Lopez received a Golden Globe nomination and became the first Latin actress to earn over US$1 million for a film. She went on to star in Anaconda (1997) and Out of Sight (1998), later establishing herself as the highest-paid Latin actress in Hollywood
