Wanda Sykes Secures Netflix Comedy Special After They Originally Low-Balled Her
You can add Wanda Sykes to the list of comedians who will be getting their very own Netflix special. After quitting Roseanne back in May, it has been announced that Wanda has just secured a deal for an hour long stand-up comedy special with Netflix. This makes Sykes’ fifth stand-up special of her career, the first in two years and a first with Netflix.
Sykes’ production company, Push It Productions, is set to produce the special which is set to premiere in 2019. Her last stand-up, What Happened … Ms Sykes debuted on Epix in 2016. She’s also had specials on HBO and Comedy Central. Her 2009 I’ma Be Me stand-up earned Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special.
Back in January, Sykes joined Mo’Nique in her criticism of Netflix, saying that she was low-balled on an offer for What Happened … Ms Sykes. Wanda tweeted:
.@moworldwide, thank you for speaking out. @netflix offered me less than half of your $500k. I was offended but found another home. #EPIX

It looks like a lot can change in two years and Netflix has finally offered Wanda what she feels she is worth.
Congrats to Wanda Sykes on the awesome news!
