Jeannie Mai Relives Her Experience Of Sexual Assault On “The Real”
Jeannie Mai is getting vocal about her battle with sexual abuse. The daytime talk show co-host spoke about it during an episode of The Real on Monday, and in support of the emergence for the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport, she expounded on her experience in a statement via Instagram. Mai clarified her experience within the caption of her Instagram post,
I let the sexual abuse continue for 4 years. Because I was 9. Because all I could do was shut my eyes and pray he would stop. Because I looked up to him. Because he was family. Because I had to relive every second of my shame just thinking who to tell. And cuz this ‘doesn’t happen to the smart girls.’
She concluded,
Thank you #RealFam, #MaiFam for all the support today on @Therealdaytime. People start to HEAL, the moment they feel HEARD. To all my bros and sisters in this, I hear you. We’re free. I Stand With You. #WhyIDidntReport

The hashtag seemed to have started a few days ago when the woman set to testify against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Christine Blasey Ford, was questioned about why she did not report her alleged sexual assault 36 years ago, when it happened.
