Tom Hanks’ Son Apologizes for Using N-Word: “I was on a lot of drugs”
Actor Tom Hanks‘ son, Chester Hanks (also known as rapper, Chet Haze) is apologizing for his past use of the n-word. Chet is under fire for videos from 2015 that have resurfaced with the 28-year-old using the racial slur – both casually, and in his music. At the time the music and videos were published, he defended his use by pointing out that he was a part of the culture – which should grant him the ability to use the n-word. He recently addressed the scrutiny on Van Lathan‘s podcast, “Red Pill.” When asked why he felt comfortable using the word, he said:
“Number one, I was on a lot of drugs…I wanted to be, like, down, you know what I mean? I just felt like I wasn’t enough.”
He continued:
“Low-key, like subconsciously, looking back on it now I realize I was trolling. I thought, like, crazy antics and just wilding the f*ck out and doing some crazy sh*t was going to, like, spark my career.”
Chet Haze later admitted that using the n-word was wrong. He said:
I did the ultimate lame thing. I did the ultimate cornball thing. And that sh*t wasn’t cool.
However, rapper/reality TV star Remy Ma revealed on her show, “State of the Culture,” that she doesn’t mind other races of people using the n-word due to the prevalence of hip-hop culture.
