Update: John Singleton’s Family Releases Statement Confirms Stroke, Director In ICU
Prayers are going out for Director John Singleton. According to reports, the director, who is the brains behind projects like “Boyz In The Hood” and “Poetic Justice”, is hospitalized after having a mild stroke.
One his family members said it’s suspected that’s Singleton’s flight from Costa Rica possibly sparked an issue with the director’s health, according to reports.
In the most recent update, doctors were doing tests and conducting rehab treatment for Singleton.
He’s certainly a pillar in the African-American film industry. He got his start with 1991’s “Boyz In The Hood,” which earned him two Oscar nods, one for Best Director and another for Best Original Screenplay. He made history as the youngest filmmaker for nominations in each category.
His other projects include Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time”, “Poetic Justice”, “Rosewood,” “Shaft,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,” and “Four Brothers”, “The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story,” “Empire,” and “Billions.”
Lately, he’s been instructing a Film and Culture at USC, where he graduated from.
Update – Singleton’s family has sent the following statement:
On Wednesday, April 17th our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital.
John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care.
We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.
