Mathew Knowles Announces Destiny’s Child Musical In The Works

Mathew Knowles, founder of R&B group Destiny’s Child, just revealed major news regarding the former trio. He just announced that a reported musical is currently in the works about the group’s rise to fame.

If Mathew Knowles has his way, the story of Destiny’s Child will take Broadway by storm. According to reports and Knowles’ recent Instagram post, he is currently hard at work on a stage musical about the R&B trio and enlisting playwright Je’Caryous Johnson to help him bring it to fruition.

The working title for the future show is Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical and Knowles says that he’s looking at a 2020 premiere date, with an opening night debut in Houston, Texas. Apparently, the musical is told from Knowles‘ perspective, and he hopes to give audiences an honest, behind-the-scenes look at how the R&B girl group got its start.

Knowles also details that the musical will chronicle Destiny’s Child’s humble beginnings, their rise to stardom, and his own entry into the music industry. Additionally, he says he wants audiences to take away the message of the show—which is that building a dream takes sacrifice, even at the cost of everything and everyone you love.

In an Instagram post to announce the news, Knowles wrote:

“BREAKING: @jecaryous Johnson and I are collaborating on Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical with plans for Broadway, London’s West End, and a world tour! More details coming soon….”

Knowles owns the rights to all things Destiny’s Child-related, so the upcoming musical should have original versions of the group’s hits without fearing the burden of clearance issues.
