Whoopi Goldberg Releases Size-Inclusive Fashion Line, Dubgee ‘I Want To Wear What I’m Making’
Whoopi Goldberg Releases Size-Inclusive Fashion Line, Dubgee
We’ve seen Whoopi Goldberg’s unique fashion sense for the past couple of decades; and most recently, she’s had no shame in expressing her style as she moderates daytime talk show The View. For those who are inspired by Goldberg’s fashionable outfits, there’s good news! She released Dubgee, a line full of items that represent her style Wednesday…and it’s size inclusive!
She said during an interview,
“For me, the idea has always been to be comfortable. And it’s the craziness of me wearing socks with high heels because I like to have socks on my feet when I wear high heels. Now everybody does it.”
“This is as serious to me as anything else I’ve done in my life. The first thing you should communicate is, ‘I like me.’ I think the motto of the company is, ‘The last thing you should ever fret about is what’s in your closet.’”
She said she got the idea for the Dubgee, which goes up to 3X, after taking a trip to Greece and not being able to find flowy dresses while there.
“I started feeling kind of weird about my body, which is something I had never experienced before. And it suddenly occurred to me that if that’s how I’m feeling, maybe other people are feeling the same way.”
“There are a million people who put their name on clothes, you know the ‘Pooky Poo’ collection,” she said. “It’s not a licensing deal to me. I want to wear what we are making. I want to say, ‘Here’s why I love it, here’s why I think you’ll love it.’ I can convince people to take a shot at feeling better.”
Whoopi’s business partner Gary Wassner added that the line will have deeper pockets, wider sleeves and longer shirt lengths.
“We are making clothes that compensate for all of the issues that have always bothered Whoopi when she’s gone shopping. That’s a concept that can extend in all categories of clothing.”
The line certainly says cute and comfy as it features staples like unique sweatshirts, dresses and of course tunics. It’s available via Amazon, Neiman Marcus, Ashley Stewart and Le Tote. Prices start at $90 and go up to $400.
Wassner, who founded Hildun, a company that asissts aspiring designers with financing their projects with loans. Goldberg and Wassner actually met at a fashion show in New York back in 2015.
Wassner applauded Golderg and said,
“She really is a fashion icon: she knows exactly who she is, there is no pretending there is nothing phoney about how she dresses.”
