Russell Simmons Declares Innocence In Civil Sexual Assault Case: “I have NEVER had non-consensual sex!”
Def Jam Records founder Russell Simmons is going to great lengths to prove his innocence in the most recent civil sexual assault suit raised against him by anonymous woman in March of 2018. He’s maintained his innocence in the rape and sexual assault accusations brought against him since 2017, but he’s now made a more permanent stance. In a private summary hearing in California, he made this declaration:
“I am horrified at the false allegations made against me in the Complaint. I do not know and I have never heard of Plaintiff. Her allegation that I committed sexual battery and threatened to rape her son is absurd, shameful, and untrue. I have never had non-consensual sex with Plaintiff or anyone else.”

In her written complaint, Russell’s accuser (being called Jane Doe to protect anonymity) says she attended a rap concert when Russell Simmons approached her, inviting her backstage with her son. She later attended an after party at a nightclub when the Phat Farm entrepreneur asked her to accompany him at a hotel to retrieve an item. He, then, allegedly threatened her, threw her on the bed, and raped her. After several requests for information of when the incident could have taken place from his defense team, Jane finally gave a ballpark time period of 1988. She is demanding $10 million in damages from Russell Simmons.

Russell’s attorney has asked for the suit to be thrown out under the statue of limitations, which is two years for a sexual battery accusation. Her attorney is attempting to use Code of Civil Procedure Section 351, which reads that the statue of limitations is paused when the defendant is physically outside of California. Russell Simmons now lives in the country of Indonesia, which Jane Doe’s defense team says is to avoid being arrested. Meanwhile, Russell’s lawyers claim this is all to extort money from him. Jane Doe, allegedly, once filed for bankruptcy in Sacramento.
Russell’s lawyer gave this statement:
“In short, Plaintiff has no corroboration or credibility in what we believe to be an effort to publicly extort Mr. Simmons.”
Russell Simmons’ next judgment hearing is scheduled for August 15th.
