Judge Mathis Is In Tears On Social Media
Daytime Emmy winning Judge, Greg Mathis shared his raw emotions after finishing the highly anticipated Netflix 4-part series, ‘When They See Us.’ In a photo posted by Mathis on Wednesday, the Ava DuVernay directed film brought tears to Mathis’ face as he urges those that have not seen the series to take a moment and watch. Mathis writes,
Just finished watching “WHEN THEY SEE US“ – the Netflix true to life miniseries about five Black & Latino Youth who were wrongfully convicted of raping a white woman after being forced to confess to a crime they DID NOT commit. The innocent teenagers served several years in prison before they were freed and exonerated. Don’t miss this story of the “ Central Park Five” FIGHT THE POWER.

After sharing his raw emotions, former Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Phaedra Parks and Raymond Santana, one of the five accused in the series, both posted emojis supporting Mathis’ message. Comedian Guy Torry says after finishing ‘When They See Us,’ he compared the true life story to the classic movie, ‘Roots‘ and ‘Passion of Christ.’ He says,
“Yeah man. Had me the same way. Same way I was when I watched Roots and Passion of Christ.”

As previously reported, the hit Netflix story recently made history as the most-watched series every day on the streaming service since it released on May 31, the streaming company announced on Wednesday.

TheJasmineBrand exclusively caught up with director, Duvernay at Netflix’s FYSEE event and she explained why she thought now is the perfect time to release When They See Us, as well as why she no longer refers to them as the Central Park Five.
“We were hoping to release it around the 30th anniversary of the real events, to just memorialize what happened to these boys. And to be able to now that they are men, we don’t call them the Central Park Five. We call them the Exonerated Five, the Innocent Five. We reclaim their humanity that was stripped from them when they were called thugs and wolf pack, wilding. That’s been our goal, our intention.
